Rajendra Machindra of the DN Nagar police station shed light on the troubling circumstances leading to the tragedy, stating, “Amarjeet Ahluwalia bore the sole responsibility of caring for her mentally challenged brother, Surender, due to their lack of extended family support. Overwhelmed by the relentless demands of caregiving, Amarjeet reached a breaking point on Friday and tragically took the life of her brother. She has since admitted to the crime, acknowledging the deep-seated frustration that led to this drastic action.”

The police have since retrieved the murder weapon, a knife, and the dupatta used in the fatal assault from the crime scene. Following a postmortem examination at Cooper Hospital, Amarjeet Ahluwalia was formally charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by their elder brother, Angadsingh Ahluwalia, aged 72. Amarjeet’s custody has been secured by the authorities for further investigation into the tragic incident.
