Standoff in Southwest Bakersfield Neighborhood

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A routine welfare check turned into a tense standoff between law enforcement officers and an 83-year-old man in a residential area of southwest Bakersfield on Thursday afternoon.

The Bakersfield Police Department received a call to check on the well-being of a resident in the 11000 block of Tulare Park Place at approximately 4:15 p.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered the elderly man, identified as Michael Wildrick, who barricaded himself inside the property and threatened to open fire on the officers.

Due to the escalating situation, an arrest warrant was issued for Wildrick. Despite attempts to establish communication with him, Wildrick remained uncooperative and refused to surrender.

After assessing the situation, law enforcement determined that Wildrick was the sole occupant of the residence, and there were no immediate threats to any other individuals in the vicinity. As a precautionary measure, officers cleared the area and continued to monitor the situation.
