Tragic Incident in Laki Marwat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

Two police constables were tragically gunned down in a suspected terrorist attack in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Thursday. The incident took place in Lakki Marwat’s Darra Pizu Bazaar, where two traffic sergeants were on duty managing traffic when unidentified bike riders opened fire on them in broad daylight.

Details of the Attack

Both constables, Hafizullah and Zaram Khan, were critically injured in the attack. Despite the efforts of local residents to rush them to the hospital, Constable Hafizullah succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital, while Head Constable Zaram Khan breathed his last in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). The perpetrators managed to escape the scene after committing the heinous crime.

Police Response and Investigation

Following the attack, a large contingent of police reached the spot and initiated a door-to-door search operation to apprehend the culprits. The spokesperson for Lakki Marwat Police, Shahid Hameed, confirmed that both constables hailed from different villages in the area and were dedicated officers serving their community.

Security Situation in Lakki Marwat

Lakki Marwat has been grappling with a resurgence of militancy in recent times, particularly after the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in Afghanistan. The release of TTP operatives from prison by the new regime has emboldened terrorist outfits like the TTP, leading to increased security challenges in the region.

Arrests in Malakand Region

Meanwhile, in the Malakand region, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully apprehended two suspects, Liaqat Ali and Mujeebullah, in connection with the fatal attack on Inspector Wakeel Khan, the chief minister’s security officer. The attack, which occurred on February 17, tragically claimed the lives of Inspector Wakeel, his friend Naseeb Khan, and injured his children. CTD’s swift action led to the arrest of the suspects, with recovered evidence linking them to the crime.
