Heartbreaking Tragedy Strikes Canada: Mother and Four Children Brutally Murdered in Barrhaven Townhouse

In a harrowing and devastating incident that has left the nation reeling in shock, a 35-year-old mother and her four young children were found brutally murdered inside a townhouse in the tranquil south Ottawa suburb of Barrhaven.

The victims of this heinous crime included the mother, along with her children aged 7, 4, 2, and just 2 months old, as well as a 40-year-old man who was known to the family.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has expressed profound sorrow and grief over what he described as a “terrible tragedy” that has shaken the community to its core.

Authorities have confirmed that the victims were a family of newcomers to Canada from Sri Lanka, with the mother identified as Darshani Banbaranayake Gama Walwwe Darshani Dilanthika Ekanayake. The children were named as seven-year-old Inuka Wickramasinghe, four-year-old Ashwini Wickramasinghe, two-year-old Rinyana Wickramasinghe, and two-month-old Kelly Wickramasinghe. The 40-year-old man who lost his life was Amarakoonmubiayansela Ge Gamini Amarakoon.

Tragically, the husband of Darshani Ekanayake, Dhanushka Wickramasinghe, was also injured in the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital. He remains in stable condition as he copes with the loss of his beloved wife and children.

Suspect Arrested in Connection with the Gruesome Murders

Authorities have apprehended a 19-year-old male student from Sri Lanka, identified as Febrio De-Zoysa, in connection with the six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. De-Zoysa, who is believed to have been familiar with the family, had been residing in their home at the time of the tragic incident.

According to police reports, De-Zoysa is a Sri Lankan national who had come to Canada for educational purposes. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 14, where he will face charges related to the horrific killings that have shocked the nation.

It has been revealed that De-Zoysa was an acquaintance of the family and was living in their home at the time of the brutal murders. He was arrested at the scene, located approximately 15 kilometres south of Ottawa’s bustling downtown core.
