Arrest Made in Connection to Sussex Central High School Shooting

A second suspect has been arrested in connection to a shooting that took place at Sussex Central High School during a basketball game last week. The incident occurred in Georgetown, Delaware, where troopers assigned to the high school were on duty for the game.

Details of the Incident

On the evening of February 27th, troopers heard gunfire in the vicinity and discovered multiple shell casings in the school’s parking lot. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Further investigation revealed a 15-year-old student as the suspect in the shooting. The teen had allegedly fired at a vehicle traveling southbound on Patriots Way after leaving the school’s parking lot.

The suspect then fled the scene in a Jeep Cherokee, driven by 19-year-old Gerod Sturgis. Additionally, gunfire had struck the nearby Howard T. Ennis School during the incident. The 15-year-old suspect was charged with four felony counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, and is currently held at the Stevenson House Detention Center.

Arrest of Gerod Sturgis

Gerod Sturgis was taken into custody on February 29th and charged with possession of a firearm in a safe school zone, second-degree conspiracy, and hindering prosecution. He is being held at SCI on a $6,000 secured bond.
