Cobb County Man Dies in Tragic Drowning Incident at West Point Lake

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — A heartbreaking incident unfolded at West Point Lake, where a 60-year-old man from Cobb County tragically lost his life after falling off his boat and drowning.

According to reports from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the man, identified as Lorenzo Reed, had gone out fishing on March 4 but failed to return home. Concerned family members contacted authorities on March 5 at approximately 4:45 p.m.

Deputies located the man’s truck and boat trailer at 1000 Seminole Road and initiated a search for his boat. The unoccupied vessel was eventually discovered anchored in a boat slip at Highland Marina, prompting the Department of Natural Resources and the Corp of Engineers to join the search efforts.

Tragically, at around 7:30 p.m., the man’s lifeless body was recovered from the water. Despite the absence of witnesses, investigators believe that Reed fell off his boat and drowned in the waters of West Point Lake.
