California Man Charged with Murder of Wife and Mother-in-Law

A California man who reported his wife and her mother missing in September has been charged with their deaths, police said Monday.

Phuc Vo, 40, is facing two counts of murder in the slayings of his wife, Tho Ly, 40, and her 74-year-old mother, Que Tran, according to the San Pablo Police Department.

Authorities have not yet located the bodies of the two women and have not disclosed the method of their deaths.

Vo had filed a missing persons report on September 13, 2023, claiming that both women had disappeared a week earlier. He stated that they had left their residence in a 2017 Honda Fit to travel to Southern California following a family dispute, as per the police.

However, investigators were unable to verify the information about the women’s journey to Southern California.

During the course of the investigation, detectives uncovered inconsistencies in Vo’s account of the women’s vehicle. He was observed driving it on December 5, 2023, in Oakland, as per authorities.

As a result, Vo was identified as a person of interest in connection with the missing persons case, leading to his arrest on February 29.

Neighbours informed Fox San Francisco that authorities were observed excavating the yard at Vo’s residence.

Vo is currently being held without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility, based on jail records.
