Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Woman in Highway 73 Collision near Englin Road

WINNIE — Tragedy struck on Tuesday when a fatal collision occurred on Highway 73, resulting in the loss of a local woman’s life.

The victim has been identified as 71-year-old Paula Long from Winnie, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident that took place at the intersection of Highway 73 and Englin Road.

Initial reports suggest that at around 4:49 p.m. on Tuesday, a Ram 1500 was travelling west on Highway 73, while a Toyota Camry was heading north on Englin Road.

Unfortunately, Long, who was driving the Toyota, failed to yield to the Ram and was subsequently struck in the collision.

The driver of the Ram, identified as 48-year-old Crispin Esparza from Houston, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Tragically, Paula Long was pronounced dead at the scene by a local justice of the peace.
