The Incident in Tolland County

On Friday, March 1, a distressing incident unfolded in Tolland County, specifically on Meadow Road in Bolton. The peaceful neighbourhood was disrupted by a troubling situation involving a man in crisis.

Man in Distress

Connecticut State Police received a concerning report about a 29-year-old man named Maxim Nowak from Bolton. Nowak’s family revealed that he was in the midst of a mental health crisis, making threats to harm himself and others while brandishing a knife.

Police Response

In response to the urgent call, Trooper Wendy Garcia-Campos, Trooper Doug Bernier, and Trooper Brian Contenta were dispatched to the scene. Upon encountering Nowak in the main hallway of the residence, the troopers found him armed with two knives.

Confrontation

Despite the troopers’ repeated attempts to persuade Nowak to drop the weapons, he adamantly refused. As the situation escalated, Nowak raised one of the knives, prompting Bernier to deploy his taser and Contenta to discharge his firearm multiple times, ultimately striking Nowak.

Medical Treatment

Following the altercation, state troopers and emergency medical services provided immediate care to Nowak on-site before transporting him to Hartford Hospital. He is currently receiving treatment at the medical facility.

Investigation Ongoing
