A bizarre incident unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, March 6, 2024, at the Love’s Travel Stop parking lot in Salisbury. The events that transpired led to the arrest of two individuals, a car crash, and a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper suffering a dislocated shoulder during the chaos.
The strange series of events began around 2 a.m. when a deputy observed a black Ford SUV with no visible occupants. Curious, the deputy trailed the vehicle to the Peeler Road exit, discovering that its license plate was registered to a different vehicle, a Nissan Altima. The Ford began exhibiting erratic driving behavior, changing lanes abruptly and slamming on the brakes multiple times.
Upon entering the Love’s parking lot, the deputy activated his lights and sirens behind the parked Ford. Instead of cooperating, the Ford reversed, circled the lot, and eventually stopped in front of the store entrance. As the confusion escalated, a male and female exited the vehicle from the passenger side and attempted to flee into the store.
Efforts to apprehend the individuals led to further chaos, with the driver failing to put the car in park, causing it to roll forward and collide with a parked vehicle. As the situation spiraled, additional law enforcement, including a trooper, intervened to restore order.
Despite attempts to detain everyone involved, the trooper’s shoulder was dislocated during a scuffle with one of the suspects. Following the incident, a K9 unit was deployed to search the vehicle, which yielded no narcotics.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old Lindsay Marie Klein, faced charges of driving with a revoked license, displaying a fictitious tag, reckless driving, and driving without insurance. Klein was remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. The male suspect, 34-year-old Antonio Lovo, was charged with resisting an officer and causing injury to personal property, also detained at the same facility on a $10,000 bond.
