Tragic Rollover Wreck Claims Life of 74-Year-Old Man in Montague County

In a devastating incident in Montague County, a 74-year-old man from Bowie lost his life in a rollover wreck. The tragic event occurred just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, approximately two miles north of Ringgold on US Highway 81.

According to Texas DPS Sgt. Juan Gutierrez, the fatal crash unfolded when a 2005 Ford Five Hundred was travelling north on US 81. As the vehicle approached a curve in the road, it veered into the wrong lane, narrowly avoiding a collision with another vehicle. In a bid to correct the error, the 63-year-old driver overcompensated to the right, causing the car to skid sideways before careening off the roadway.

The Ford crashed through a barbed wire fence, flipped onto its left side, and eventually came to rest upright. Tragically, the passenger in the vehicle, identified as 74-year-old James Hall, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken to Nocona General Hospital for treatment, as confirmed by Sgt. Gutierrez.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the wreck is currently ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
