Mira-Bhayandar: Just a few days after a devastating fire ravaged through Azad Nagar, a bustling slum settlement near the Golden Nest circle area in Bhayandar (east), the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has sprung into action. The fire, which occurred on the 28th of February, left a trail of destruction in its wake, claiming the life of one individual and injuring several others, including children and firefighters.

Tragic Loss in Azad Nagar Fire

The loss of Deepak Chourasia, also known as Pappu, who succumbed to severe burn injuries, has left the community reeling. In addition to the tragic loss of life, the fire also resulted in injuries to five individuals, highlighting the dangers faced by residents and emergency responders in such densely populated areas.

The MBMC wasted no time in initiating demolition work to remove illegally constructed structures and clear away the debris left by the fire. Led by Narendra Chavhan, the anti-encroachment squad deployed JCBs and manual labour to expedite the process while ensuring strict security measures were in place.

Illegal Structures and Hazardous Material

More than 40 residential and commercial structures, built without proper authorization, were targeted for demolition. These structures had encroached upon land designated for social forestry reservation, posing a risk to both residents and the environment. Additionally, the slum settlement housed numerous scrap godowns operating illegally and allegedly storing hazardous materials, further complicating the situation.

The swift action taken by the MBMC serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in addressing illegal constructions and ensuring the safety of residents in vulnerable areas. As the cleanup efforts continue, authorities are working to prevent similar incidents in the future and safeguard the well-being of the community.
