Counterfeit Money Scam Unveiled in Indiana County

Recent reports from court records have unveiled a third suspect in a regional crackdown on the passing of counterfeit $100 bills in two counties. The incident took place in White Township, Indiana County, and has left businesses in the area on high alert.

Suspects identified

David Alejandro Osorio Sepulveda, a 21-year-old homeless individual, has been identified as one of the suspects involved in the counterfeit money scheme. He is currently incarcerated in Indiana County, with bail denied by Indiana Magisterial District Judge Anthony Sottile III. Alongside Sepulveda, Brian Stalin Castro-Ortega, 21, of Flushing, N.Y., and Jordan Alexan Alvarado-Garrido, 19, have also been apprehended in connection to the case.

Charges and Allegations

Sepulveda faces multiple charges, including theft by deception and retail theft, while Castro-Ortega is accused of theft by deception, unlawful taking, retail theft, and providing false identification to law enforcement. Alvarado-Garrido, on the other hand, faces charges of conspiracy, theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, and retail theft.

Modus Operandi

The suspects allegedly used counterfeit $100 bills to make purchases at various establishments in the Indiana Mall and Southtowne Plaza. They received change for the transactions along with the stolen merchandise. The scam was carried out at popular stores like Harbor Freight Tools, Bath & Body Works, Dunham’s Sports, and Staples.

Ongoing Investigation

Despite the apprehension of three suspects, a fourth individual, described as a White Hispanic male in his late teens, is still at large. Authorities have released a description of the suspect based on surveillance footage, urging the public to come forward with any information.

Future Proceedings

The suspects currently in custody are set to appear for preliminary hearings on March 14 at 10:30 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into the possibility of similar incidents in neighbouring counties.
