Tragic Incident in Karachi: University Student Shot Dead by Robbers

A heart-wrenching incident took place in the Korangi area of Karachi on Monday night as robbers fatally shot a private university student during a robbery attempt.

The victim, identified as Laraib, tragically lost his life in the Allah Wala Town locality.

Family’s Account of the Incident

According to the victim’s father, Muhammad Hussain, Laraib was in the midst of writing a book, with all the data saved on his cell phone. It was this valuable work that prompted him to resist the robbery. Laraib had left the house to go to the gym when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Muhammad Hussain further revealed that Laraib was engaged and his wedding was set to take place in 2025.

Adding to the family’s grief, Laraib’s brother Shahzaib mentioned that his sibling was working on a book focusing on Basic Accounting. Expressing disappointment in the police’s inability to prevent such crimes, Shahzaib highlighted the rising incidents of dacoities in the city.

Police Investigation

Authorities shared that Laraib was confronted by two suspects on his way back from the gym. A single gunshot fired by one of the assailants struck Laraib near his eye, proving to be fatal.

At the crime scene, a 30-bore pistol’s empty bullet shell was discovered, but no mobile phone was found near Laraib’s body. The police assured that a thorough investigation was underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Previous Incidents

This tragic event echoes a similar incident involving a 21-year-old engineering student, Bilal Nasir, from the NED University of Engineering and Technology. In December 2022, Bilal was fatally shot in Karachi by robbers attempting to snatch his mobile phone.

Following these unsettling events, Additional Inspector General of Police Jawed Alam Odho made a plea to the citizens of Karachi, urging them not to resist robbers in the face of danger.
