Tragic Plane Crash in Clearwater Leaves Pilot and Two Others Dead

The pilot aboard the Beechcraft Bonanza V-35 that tragically crashed into a mobile home park in Clearwater was unable to locate the airport moments before the devastating incident, according to a recently published NTSB report.

The National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report on the tragic plane crash that occurred on Feb. 1 provided insight into the events leading up to the collision at Bayside Waters Mobile Home Park.

Tragically, the pilot and two individuals in one of the mobile homes impacted by the crash lost their lives, while another individual in a separate mobile home sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

The report, made public on Tuesday, revealed that the flight originated from Vero Beach Municipal Airport with a destination of Clearwater Air Park. However, around 7 p.m. on Feb. 1, the pilot expressed difficulty in locating Clearwater Air Park and requested for the runway lights to be turned on.

Despite the runway lights being activated for another landing aircraft, the pilot made a second request, prompting air park officials to increase the intensity of the lights. However, the pilot decided to divert to Albert Whitted Airport as Clearwater Air Park remained elusive.

Subsequently, the pilot reported “I’m losing engine,” and intended to land at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport after being informed of available runways by air traffic controllers. Regrettably, no further transmissions were received from the pilot.

An eyewitness pilot in close proximity observed the aircraft in an “uncontrolled descent,” descending rapidly. Additionally, a ground witness recounted seeing a fiery object before the plane crashed.

Several videos captured by nearby commercial establishments depicted a light descending rapidly with engine-related sounds, as per the NTSB report.

The pilot, identified as 54-year-old Jemin Patel from Melbourne Beach, tragically lost his life in the crash. The two individuals on the ground, 86-year-old Martha Parry and 54-year-old Mary Ellen Pender, also perished in the incident.
