Accident – Death – Obituary News : Law enforcement officials have recently made public a portion of the bodycam footage depicting the fatal shooting of a man by Tucson police officers on February 2. The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, consisting of members from 10 law enforcement agencies in Pima County, conducted an investigation into the incident and revealed their findings in a video compilation. This compilation included audio from the 911 call, security camera footage, and bodycam footage.

The events leading up to the shooting began around 8:15 p.m. when the Tucson Police Department received multiple 911 calls from an apartment complex reporting a verbal altercation between a man and a woman, followed by several gunshots. Witnesses stated that they heard what sounded like a “domestic disturbance” between their neighbours, with reports of gunshots being fired in the air around 8 to 10 times. One caller mentioned seeing the man through their window, while another saw the woman outside speaking on the phone, prompting them to offer assistance by calling 911 on her behalf.

According to one caller, the woman went to check on her children after the neighbour alerted the police, claiming that the man had returned home “drunk and upset.” The nature of the relationship between the man and the woman has not been disclosed by authorities.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard gunshots coming from inside the apartment complex. Occupants of the residence had already distanced themselves from the suspect by this point. Officers proceeded to evacuate neighbouring apartments while the Tucson Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team contained the suspect in a single apartment. Hostage negotiators were also called to the scene.

Bodycam footage captured the moment officers identified the residents and moved forward upon hearing additional gunshots. Subsequently, a 23-year-old man named Fabian Garcia emerged partially from his residence, holding a rifle in his left hand.

Officers quickly identified themselves to Garcia, instructing him to raise his hands. In the footage, Garcia can be heard asking who was present while officers attempted to communicate with him. Garcia then opened the front doorway and raised his right hand towards the weapon. At that moment, four officers discharged their firearms, striking Garcia.

Following the shooting, officers ensured the area was secure before administering aid to Garcia. Despite their efforts, Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tucson Fire Department. There were no other casualties or injuries reported in connection with the incident.

Shell casings from the same caliber weapon Garcia was holding were discovered in both the front and backyards of the residence, according to the video footage. The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team and the Tucson Police Department are continuing their investigation into the incident, as well as the actions of the four officers involved in the shooting. All findings will be presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review once the investigation is concluded, in line with standard procedures for officer-involved shootings.

Authorities are currently assessing whether the four officers – identified as Chad Barker, Devin Estes, Joseph Buck, and Kyle Walker – breached any protocols with their use of force during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing..
