Chandler Police Involved Shooting Leaves Two Hospitalized

Chandler, Arizona – Two individuals are still receiving medical treatment following an incident of an officer-involved shooting that took place over the weekend in a residential area of Chandler.

The series of events unfolded around 6:20 p.m. on March 3 when Chandler Police received multiple emergency calls reporting a man making disturbing statements about deceased individuals within his residence near the intersection of Chandler Boulevard and McClintock Drive.

Eyewitnesses reported that the man was visibly armed, and a gunshot was heard prior to law enforcement’s arrival at the scene.

Upon reaching the neighbourhood, officers initiated communication with the suspect through the screen door of his home. Police described the individual as highly agitated and in possession of a handgun.

Subsequently, the suspect emerged from his residence and allegedly aimed his firearm at the officers. In response, law enforcement discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.

Simultaneously, a nearby resident who had ventured outdoors and refused to return indoors drew the attention of a third officer. The officer observed what appeared to be a weapon in the neighbour’s hand, prompting the officer to fire at the individual.

“The subject displayed behaviours suggestive of being armed and aimed towards the officers during the incident,” stated Interim Chief of Chandler Police, Melissa Deanda.

The neighbour, identified as a 33-year-old male, sustained injuries from the incident. However, it was later determined that the object he held was not a weapon.

Both the neighbour and the initial suspect, 59-year-old Luciano Gutierrez, are currently in stable condition. Gutierrez is expected to face legal proceedings upon his discharge from the medical facility.

The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave as the incident undergoes a thorough investigation. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel were harmed during the altercation.
