NIA Takes Over Probe of Bomb Blast at Rameswaram Café in Brookefield, Bengaluru

Following the recent bomb blast at the Rameswaram Café in Brookefield, Bengaluru, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation. The local police had been struggling to make headway in the case, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to hand over the probe to the NIA. The move comes amid mounting criticism from the Karnataka unit of the BJP, accusing the Siddaramaiah government of soft-pedalling the investigation.

The bomb blast at the café resulted in at least 10 injuries, with all the victims currently receiving treatment at various private hospitals. CCTV footage has identified the suspect as a male aged between 28 and 30 years. The individual entered the café during lunchtime, purchased a coupon for Rava idli, but left without consuming the dish. Instead, he left behind a bag containing an improvised explosive device (IED).

Key Details of the Investigation

Bengaluru police have released snapshots from the CCTV footage showing the suspect with his face obscured by a mask and cap. Raghavendra Rao, the co-founder and CEO of Rameshwaram Cafe, has urged both the Union and state governments to take stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Rao dismissed any notion of business rivalry playing a role in the attack, stating that it was unlikely for someone within the business circle to engage in such malicious activities.

Meanwhile, the opposition has criticised the Siddaramaiah-led government for allegedly withholding information about the bomb blast. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka accused the Congress government of concealing facts and attempting to manipulate the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report. Ashoka drew parallels to a previous incident where pro-Pakistan slogans were raised at the Vidhana Soudha.
