Protest Turns Violent at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University

A protest march organised by the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and Muslim Students Federation (MSF) at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) in Pookode, Wayanad district, took a violent turn on Monday, March 4. The demonstration ended in chaos as police had to resort to water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters, who were seen pelting stones at the law enforcement personnel.

Trigger for the Protest

The protest was triggered by the tragic death of 20-year-old Sidharthan, who was allegedly subjected to brutal torture and harassment by his classmates in the hostel on February 18. The incident sparked outrage among the student community, leading to demands for justice and accountability.

Arrests Made in the Case

Following the incident, the police swiftly took action by booking 18 students in connection with the case. Eight suspects, mostly affiliated with the Students Federation of India (SFI), were arrested, while the remaining accused are currently on the run. The arrested individuals have been identified as J Ajay, A Althaf, V Adithyan, EK Soud Risal, Sinjo Johnson, M Muhammad Danish, and RS Kashinathan.

The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter to bring all the perpetrators to justice and ensure such incidents are not repeated in the future.
