A 17-year-old girl died and five others were injured when a “Chander Gari” (locally modified passenger vehicle) overturned on a hilly road in Bandarban’s Ruma upazila this morning.

The deceased was identified as Ling A Khumi, daughter of Kuhai Khumi of Kayit Para in ward 9 of Sadar union.

The accident occurred around 9:00am, said Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Shahjahan.

Quoting locals, police said the Chander Gari was going from Samakhal Para to Ruma market when the driver lost control on the hilly terrain near Nazerat Para, hit a roadside wall, and overturned.

Khumi died on the spot, while five others suffered injuries.

Locals took the injured to Ruma Upazila Health Complex.

Four individuals received treatment at the health complex, while one critically injured person was transferred to Bandarban Zilla Sadar Hospital, said Mohammad Shawkat ul Ferdous, health and family planning officer of the health complex.

The body of the deceased was sent to Ruma Upazila Health Complex morgue for autopsy.

Due to the rugged and unpaved roads of the hills, it was not possible to seize the car and no case was filed in this regard, said the OC.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tragic Incident in Bandarban: 17-Year-Old Girl Killed in Chander Gari Accident

A tragic incident occurred in Bandarban’s Ruma upazila this morning, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old girl and injuries to five others. The deceased, identified as Ling A Khumi, was the daughter of Kuhai Khumi from Kayit Para in ward 9 of Sadar union.

Details of the Accident

The accident took place around 9:00 am when a “Chander Gari,” a locally modified passenger vehicle, overturned on a hilly road. According to Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Muhammad Shahjahan, the vehicle was en route from Samakhal Para to Ruma market when the driver lost control on the hilly terrain near Nazerat Para, crashing into a roadside wall and overturning.

Tragically, Khumi lost her life on the spot, while the five injured individuals were promptly taken to Ruma Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Four of the injured received medical attention at the health complex, while one critically injured person was transferred to Bandarban Zilla Sadar Hospital.

Investigation and Response

Local authorities have reported that due to the rugged and unpaved roads in the hilly region, it was not feasible to seize the vehicle involved in the accident. As a result, no case has been filed in connection with the incident.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the Ruma Upazila Health Complex morgue for autopsy purposes. The community in Bandarban is deeply saddened by the loss of young Khumi and the injuries sustained by the other individuals involved in the accident.
