Suspect in Custody Following Fatal Shooting in Jackson

A suspect is currently in police custody after a fatal shooting took place on Monday afternoon in Jackson. The incident, which resulted in the tragic death of 22-year-old Sirus Catchings, is believed to have stemmed from an argument over a woman, according to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade.

Chief Wade revealed that officers received reports of a man who had succumbed to a gunshot wound in the 1700 block of Barrett Avenue. Upon arrival, the victim was identified as Sirus Catchings. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Joshua Taylor, was later apprehended in connection to the case.

Following the shooting, Taylor barricaded himself inside a nearby residence in close proximity to the crime scene. The Jackson Police Department’s SWAT team was activated, but Taylor fortunately surrendered himself before their arrival, allowing officers to make the arrest.

Chief Wade expressed his dismay over the tragic incident, stating, “There was a conflict between two individuals that knew each other. One individual decided to introduce a gun into the conflict and cost the other person his life.”

Chief Wade indicated that the conflict between Catchings and Taylor was believed to have been fuelled by a dispute over a woman. In addition to Taylor, two other individuals were taken into custody for being present in the house where Taylor had barricaded himself. The Jackson Police Department is currently investigating their involvement in the incident.
