TBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Collierville

Following a request from 30th Judicial District Attorney General Steve Mulroy, TBI special agents are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding a tragic officer-involved shooting that took place on Sunday night involving officers from the Collierville Police Department.

Initial reports suggest that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when Collierville officers conducted a routine traffic stop of a speeding vehicle at Poplar Avenue and Schilling Boulevard. During the stop, an altercation broke out between one of the officers and the driver, identified as Antwon Booker (DOB 03/08/1993). It was reported that Booker attempted to grab the weapon of one of the officers, prompting the other officer to discharge his firearm, resulting in Booker’s unfortunate demise at a nearby medical facility.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, with TBI agents diligently working to establish a clear timeline of events leading up to the shooting. This includes gathering evidence and conducting interviews to piece together a comprehensive understanding of the situation. The findings of the investigation will be shared with the District Attorney General for further evaluation. It is important to note that the TBI’s role is to gather facts and not to determine the justification of an officer’s actions, leaving that decision to the District Attorney General.

For privacy and security reasons, the TBI does not disclose the identities of officers involved in such incidents, deferring such inquiries to the respective police department for handling.

Any updates on the progress of this investigation will be promptly published on the official TBINewsroom.
