The assailant, later identified as Emmanuel Prevaly, 34, is accused of beating the woman, who was 22 weeks pregnant at the time, resulting in the death of her 5-month-old fetus.

The incident took place in the early hours of the morning as the woman returned to her Pompano Beach apartment from the parking lot. Wearing a ski mask and all-black clothing, Prevaly ambushed the woman, striking her head, arms, and kicking her in the stomach with the metal bat. The victim sustained fractures in her spine and required stitches for a deep gash.

Desperate Attempt to Call for Help

During the attack, the woman’s cellphone fell to the ground, prompting her to try and use her iPhone’s virtual assistant to call 911. However, Prevaly seized the phone and continued the assault, preventing her from seeking help. Witnesses in the area heard the victim’s screams and responded to the scene, causing the attacker to flee.

Tragic Outcome

Medical professionals were unable to detect a heartbeat in the unborn child following the attack. The Broward County medical examiner determined that the fetus died from multiple blunt force injuries inflicted during the brutal assault. The victim, who was left in shock upon learning Prevaly’s identity as the attacker, had known him since childhood and was in a relationship with him.

Legal Proceedings
