Elderly Couple in Bihar Dies by Suicide Unable to Repay Loan

An elderly couple from Sakra-Wajidpur panchayat in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district tragically died by suicide as they were unable to repay a loan they had taken from a private society. The couple, identified as Shivan Das (60) and his wife Bhukhli Devi (55), were facing financial difficulties and resorted to extreme measures.

According to reports, Shivan had borrowed a total of ₹7 lakh from the private finance society to meet their basic needs, including food, medicine, and other expenses. The couple, who belonged to a poor family, worked as labourers in the agriculture field to make ends meet.

Police suspect that the couple took their lives due to the pressure of repaying the loan, as the lenders had been making repeated calls and visits to collect the instalments. Their son, Ram Babu Das, revealed that his parents went missing and were later found hanging from a tree.

Upon receiving the information, Sakra police registered a case and sent the bodies for postmortem at SKMCH. The couple’s kin had reported them missing, leading to a search operation that ended in the tragic discovery of their bodies.
