Man Arrested for Shooting 4-Year-Old Boy in San Leandro Apartment Building

Last week in San Leandro, East Bay, a disturbing incident unfolded when a man opened fire on an apartment building, injuring a 4-year-old boy. The incident took place on the 400 block of West Juana Avenue on Feb. 28, prompting a swift response from the San Leandro Police Department.

Details of the Incident

Reports indicated that the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Adam Johnson of Oakland, stood in a driveway and fired multiple shots into the apartment building. The young victim sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, the intended victim in the first unit was unharmed.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that Johnson’s motive for the shooting was to reclaim a vehicle he had reported stolen earlier. Authorities utilized surveillance footage, license plate readers, and law enforcement sources to track down Johnson, leading to his arrest on Feb. 29.

Legal Actions and Charges

Johnson now faces serious charges filed by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, including two counts of attempted homicide. The charges come with enhancements and special circumstances related to firearm use and great bodily injury. Currently, Johnson is being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and is set to appear in court on Tuesday.
