Shooting Incident at High Meadows Park in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRING, Colo. (KRDO) – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a shots fired call at High Meadows Park on the northeast side of the city. The incident took place on Wednesday, Feb. 28, and raised concerns within the community.

Details of the Incident

Shortly after the shots fired call at the park, CSPD received another call from a business located in the area of N. Carefree Ave. and N. Powers Blvd. The call reported that two juvenile males had sustained gunshot wounds. It was later determined that these two individuals were involved in the shooting at the park. Tragically, one of the juveniles suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and passed away at the hospital. The other juvenile was treated for his injuries and subsequently released.

Identification of the Deceased

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased juvenile male and confirmed that he was a 17-year-old from Colorado Springs. In compliance with Colorado Revised Statute 24-72-304 (Riley’s Law), CSPD has refrained from disclosing any further identifying information about the victim.

Ongoing Investigation

As of now, a suspect in the shooting remains at large, as CSPD continues its investigation into the incident. Authorities have stated that this tragic event is not believed to be a random act of violence. Detectives are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting and to gather potential suspect information.
