Tragedy Strikes as Man Crushed to Death by Truck Driver in Lagos

A devastating incident occurred in Lagos State as a 49-year-old man, Gbolahan Aina, lost his life in a tragic accident involving a truck driver identified as Godwin Donatus. The unfortunate event took place around Henry Carr Street, Guinness Plc, on a Saturday morning at approximately 7:00 a.m.

According to reports gathered by PUNCH Online, the fatal accident occurred when the truck, bearing the number plate KJA-74 XQ, accidentally reversed and fatally crushed Gbolahan Aina. The victim, who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

A police source revealed that the driver, Godwin Donatus, was unaware of Gbolahan’s presence behind the truck as he was manoeuvring in reverse. The impact of the truck on the unsuspecting victim was fatal, leading to his immediate demise. The victim was swiftly rushed to Maryland Hospital, where his death was officially confirmed.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the tragic incident and disclosed that Gbolahan Aina’s body has been transferred to the Maryland Hospital Mortuary for further examination through an autopsy. Hundeyin assured that any updates on the case would be promptly communicated to the public.

The recent incident adds to a string of road-related tragedies in the region, with reports emerging of a mob setting a Hilux Toyota vehicle ablaze following a fatal accident that claimed three lives near the Kara-OPIC bus stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The vehicle reportedly lost control due to brake failure, resulting in the death of three individuals and injuries sustained by two others.
