Deadly Crash on Antioch Pike Leaves One Dead, Another Facing Charges

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A fatal crash occurred on Saturday morning on Antioch Pike, resulting in the death of one driver and leaving another driver to face charges, according to officials.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported that the incident took place on Antioch Pike at the I-24 overpass around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2.

Initial investigations by detectives suggest that a Honda Accord was travelling at a high speed southeast towards Harding Place when it crossed the centre line and collided with a Ford Explorer in the opposite lane.

The driver of the Honda, who remains unidentified, was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by officials.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is currently working on identifying the deceased driver, and toxicology tests will be conducted to determine if impairment played a role in the tragic crash.

On the other hand, the driver of the Ford, identified as 44-year-old Robert Baldwin, along with his passenger, were also taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Baldwin showed no signs of impairment at the scene, officials noted.

Despite this, authorities disclosed that Baldwin had three outstanding warrants at the time of the crash. Following his discharge from the hospital, he will be arrested on “additional charges for driving on a revoked license and financial responsibility,” according to MNPD.
