Tragic Shooting Incident at Shella Village in East Khasi Hills District
SHILLONG, MAR 2: In a tragic turn of events, a villager from the remote Indo-Bangla border village of Shella in East Khasi Hills District has been fatally shot following a heated altercation with the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday night.

The incident took place in the serene and picturesque setting of Shella village, nestled along the border between India and Bangladesh. Known for its lush greenery and peaceful surroundings, Shella has now been marred by this shocking incident that has left the community in mourning.
Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi confirmed the devastating news on Saturday, revealing that the deceased, identified as Arsen M Marak, was shot dead by the BSF. The post-mortem examination is currently underway to determine the exact cause of death.
Despite the gravity of the situation, police authorities are yet to receive a First Information Report (FIR) from either side involved in the altercation. Superintendent Ravi disclosed that the police are actively investigating the matter to piece together the sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting.
According to the initial statement provided by the BSF, the use of force was deemed necessary as they were allegedly attacked and threatened during the altercation. In self-defence, the BSF resorted to firing upon the individuals involved in the confrontation.

However, the village side of the story is still pending as the police await the submission of the FIR. Superintendent Ravi emphasised the importance of gathering all perspectives and evidences before proceeding with the legal formalities.
