The Tragic ATV Accident in Calhoun, Iowa

In a devastating incident in Calhoun, Iowa, an 84-year-old man lost his life while another individual was injured in an ATV accident. The Iowa State Patrol reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 20 and Zearing Ave.

Details of the Accident

The tragic event unfolded around 3:30 p.m. when a northbound John Deere ATV on Zearing Ave. failed to yield the right of way to a Ford Taurus travelling east on Highway 20. The Ford collided with the ATV, causing both vehicles to come to a halt at the median east of the intersection.

Victims of the Accident

The driver of the ATV, identified as 88-year-old Michael Donald Leith from Manson, Iowa, succumbed to his injuries and was transported to a funeral home. The driver of the Ford, identified as William Oscar Peterson, was taken to his residence in Moreland, Iowa by his family members.

Assistance From Authorities

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received support from the Knierim Fire Department, the Calhoun Medical Examiner, and the Iowa Department of Transportation in responding to the scene of the accident.
