Shooting Incident in Thomasville Whataburger Parking Lot Under Investigation

A recent shooting incident in the Whataburger parking lot in Thomasville has left the community shocked and concerned. The incident, which took place on Thursday, Feb. 29 at around 4:25 a.m., involved an individual affiliated with the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) SWAT Team.

The Whataburger location, situated at 13880 Highway 19 in Thomasville, became the scene of a confrontation that escalated quickly. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) was called in to handle the case shortly after around 6:00 a.m., adding a layer of official scrutiny to the situation.

Details of the Incident

The GBI report indicated that one of the individuals involved in the altercation was Lucas Williams, 38, a member of the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team serving as a medic. Notably, Williams was not engaged in any SWAT operations during the time of the incident.

According to the available information, Williams was waiting in the Whataburger parking lot for another individual when a disagreement erupted between him and a male in another vehicle in the drive-thru line. The situation quickly escalated, with Williams allegedly brandishing a pistol and approaching the other driver. In response, the male in the car retrieved a rifle and moved to a safer location away from Williams, eventually fleeing to a neighboring business and crossing Highway 19.

Charges and Legal Ramifications

As the male crossed the highway, Williams reportedly fired multiple shots in his direction, though no one sustained injuries as a result of the gunfire. One of the pistol rounds struck a gas pump at a nearby Raceway gas station before being recovered across Highway 19 from the Whataburger.

In light of the incident, Williams has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and has been taken into custody at the Thomas County Jail to await further legal proceedings.
