Background of the Incident

The victim, the owner of an out-of-state cannabis dispensary, was in Champaign visiting family for the holidays when he was approached by someone offering free cannabis samples. After declining the offer, the victim later drove to Mahomet to meet a friend.

Hoosier, along with two others, suspected that the victim was carrying a significant amount of cannabis and cash. They followed him to Mahomet, where surveillance footage captured them approaching the victim outside his friend’s house. Hoosier and his accomplices allegedly grabbed the victim from behind, leading to a struggle.

The Shooting

During the altercation, Hoosier reportedly shot at the victim twice as he tried to escape, hitting him in the side. The victim managed to get into his vehicle and drive to a hospital after contacting his daughter. A blind photo array later confirmed that the victim identified Hoosier as the shooter.

Witnesses at the scene in Mahomet heard the gunshots and confirmed the sequence of events to the police. Additionally, surveillance footage showed Hoosier attempting to conceal a firearm near an outdoor supply store before retrieving it upon noticing the camera.
