Accident – Death – Obituary News : RUTLAND, Vt. (NEWS10) — A Vermont man, Eric Stephens of Rutland, aged 58, found himself in hot water after being pulled over in the parking lot of a hotel. The routine traffic stop quickly escalated when police discovered a felony amount of cocaine in his possession, leading to multiple charges being filed against him.

The incident occurred on a Thursday evening around 7:33 p.m. when Vermont State Police stopped a car in the parking lot of the Rutland Cortina Inn for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as Stephens, was found to have a criminally suspended license, further complicating the situation.

Upon suspicion of drug use, a K9 unit was called to the scene, and after the dog signaled the presence of drugs, a search warrant was obtained to search the vehicle. The search revealed a significant amount of cocaine, resulting in Stephens facing charges related to possession of the illegal substance.

The charges brought against Stephens include possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license (DLS), and being a habitual criminal. As a result of the arrest, Stephens was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Center on a bail amount of $5,000.
