Accident – Death – Obituary News : A resident of Brooklyn Park has received his sentence after pleading guilty in connection with the overdose death of a man from Tennessee. Benjamin Theron Fraser, aged 43, has been handed a sentence of eight and a half years (equivalent to 103 months) in prison, which has been stayed for 25 years of probation. Additionally, he will serve 364 days in the Washington County Jail, with credit for 117 days already served.

The charges against Fraser originally stemmed from an incident that took place on June 22, 2022, at the Woodsprings Hotel on Weir Drive in Woodbury. Authorities were called to the hotel after receiving a report of a man who was unresponsive and cold to the touch. Tragically, the man, who was visiting the area for work, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that the victim had rented the room at the hotel where he was found. Drug paraphernalia and other evidence of drug use were discovered in the room. Subsequent examination by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined that the victim had died from fentanyl toxicity.

A neighbour informed law enforcement that she had assisted the victim in purchasing what she believed to be heroin from an individual known as “Bennie”. Through the investigation, officers were able to identify “Bennie” as Benjamin Theron Fraser. Cellphone records from Fraser, the victim, and the neighbour corroborated the woman’s account, showing drug-related text messages that confirmed the drug transaction.

The guilty plea was entered by Fraser in November of 2023, following his initial charge of third-degree murder in November of 2022. The sentencing decision was handed down on Friday, marking the conclusion of this tragic case.
