Tragic Accident in Khao Kitchakut National Park Leaves One Dead and Nine Injured

On a fateful morning in Khao Kitchakut National Park, tragedy struck as a passenger pickup truck carrying Thai and Russian tourists overturned, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries. The incident occurred in the Noen Sai area of Khao Kitchakut district at 8:30 am, coinciding with the park’s annual Buddha’s Footprint Celebration festival.

Details of the Accident

The group of 10 visitors, consisting of seven Thai and three Russian tourists, was returning from a visit to the revered Buddha footprint when the grey passenger pickup driven by Todsaphorn Saowaphong, 30, met with the unfortunate accident. The vehicle, which was reportedly part of a regular shuttle service for tourists, was found overturned 700 metres from the Phra Bat Luang checkpoint.

Victims and Injuries

Tragically, one Thai national, Yuppharet Thanaporn, 28, lost their life at the scene of the accident. The remaining passengers, including the three injured Russian tourists, were promptly taken to Khao Kitchakut Hospital for treatment. The injured Russian passengers were identified as Lilila Gabdnakhmanova, 59, Ahiia Ilinava, 60, and Khammatov Almaz, 54, while the Thai passengers included Pisit Pibulnurak, Surattana Hammatov, Wimol Phonudom, Naruemon Phongwan, Thani Apibalsri, and Wachirawitch Pornthanapa.

Cause of the Accident

Chanthaburi governor Monsit Paisanthanawat revealed that preliminary investigations pointed to slippery road conditions caused by morning dew as the primary factor behind the accident. In response, Mr Chawin, the park chief, and Thitikamol Sukyen, the Khao Kitchakut district chief, have been tasked with handling compensation for the victims and their families.
