Trichy, a city known for its historical significance, witnessed a tragic incident on Wednesday afternoon when an 18-year-old student lost his life while swimming in the Cauvery river at Kambarasampettai. The victim, identified as J Deepan, hailed from Manickapuram in Palakkarai and was a second-year student in an arts and science college in Trichy.
The unfortunate event unfolded as Deepan and four of his college friends decided to spend some time at the check dam. While enjoying a swim in the river, Deepan found himself in a precarious situation as he struggled to battle the strong currents of the Cauvery. Despite his friends’ efforts to help him, Deepan tragically drowned in the river.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Fire and Rescue Service personnel swiftly responded to the scene and initiated a search operation for Deepan. After a thorough search, they were able to recover his lifeless body from the water. The body was later transferred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) for a postmortem examination.
