Springfield Man Fatally Shot by Illinois State Police Trooper on Interstate 55 in McLean County identified

A Springfield resident has been identified as the individual who was fatally shot by an Illinois State Police trooper on Interstate 55 in McLean County on Saturday afternoon.

The Illinois State Police (ISP) stated that 37-year-old Trayvon C. Little allegedly pointed a firearm at one of the troopers before an exchange of gunfire occurred.

The identity of the deceased was confirmed by the McLean County coroner’s office on Wednesday.

Further Details: The victim, Trayvon C. Little, succumbed to multiple shotgun wounds at the scene of the incident.

The ISP received a call regarding shots being fired on Interstate 55 northbound at milepost 178 near Lexington, prompting their response to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was reported that an individual, later identified as Little, inside one of the vehicles brandished a firearm towards at least one of the officers and discharged shots before the officers engaged in gunfire with the individual.

A spokesperson for the ISP declined to comment on whether the occupants of the two vehicles were involved in a shootout or if any arrests were made in connection with the incident.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the Special Agents of the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation.
