Tragic DUI Crash Claims Life of Woman in Fresno
In a heartbreaking incident in northwest Fresno, a woman lost her life in an alleged DUI crash. The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Michelle Cruz, who was walking her bicycle and cart on Polk and Fairmont Avenues when she was struck by an SUV.
The driver, 31-year-old Jennifer Fleishman, has been cited on suspicion of driving under the influence. Despite immediate medical attention from a bystander and CPR efforts by officers, Cruz was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Cruz, who was part of the unhoused community, was known to neighbors in the area. Residents expressed their shock and sadness over the tragic event, emphasizing the importance of road safety and consideration for others.
According to Diana Truebavega of the Fresno Police Department, it is crucial for drivers to be mindful of their surroundings, especially in areas with poor lighting. Truebavega urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, particularly in residential neighbourhoods.

The crash occurred in a residential zone where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour. However, neighbours like Ernie Andrade noted that many drivers exceed this limit, leading to frequent accidents in the area.
Andrade, who has witnessed multiple collisions since moving to the neighbourhood, stressed the importance of drivers showing courtesy and attentiveness on the road to prevent further tragedies.

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, and authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. The Fresno Police Department is seeking information to assist in their inquiries.
