Tragic Day in Phoenix as Five People Killed in Separate Crashes

Phoenix witnessed a series of devastating accidents on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of five lives in separate incidents.

The first tragic incident occurred around 11 a.m. on 7th Avenue just north of Thomas Road, involving three vehicles. Gladyce Thorson Nielsen, 86, tragically lost her life in the collision, with a man sustaining serious injuries.

Later in the day, at nearly 5 p.m., 43-year-old Antonio Lopez-Cortes tragically lost his life when the truck he was driving overturned in a dry canal near 18th Avenue and Hatcher Road, close to Dunlap Avenue. Fortunately, no one else was injured in this incident.

Following this, Phoenix police responded to a collision involving a bicyclist around an hour later in the vicinity of 75th Avenue and Hazelwood Street, south of Camelback Road. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Harlan Slender, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene, with authorities ruling out impairment as a contributing factor.

Subsequently, at approximately 7:45 p.m., 18-year-old Carrigan Jones tragically lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into a light pole near 31st Avenue and Camelback Road. Police investigations revealed that Jones was speeding on Camelback Road when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

In another heartbreaking incident just before 10 p.m., emergency services were summoned to the area of 32nd Street and Windsor Avenue, south of Thomas Road, after a pedestrian was struck by a driver. Tragically, the victim passed away at the scene. Authorities believe the pedestrian was crossing the road when he was hit by a southbound vehicle on 32nd Street, and subsequently struck by another car travelling in the same direction.

Both drivers involved in the final incident remained at the scene, with police ruling out impairment as a contributing factor. The identity of the pedestrian has not been disclosed at this time.
