Three Men Posed as Walmart Employees and Stole Over $100,000 Worth of Apple Products

In a daring heist, three suspects disguised themselves as Walmart employees and managed to steal over $100,000 worth of Apple products from various Walmart stores across Virginia. The suspects were identified and connected to the robberies after a thorough investigation by Walmart Senior Manager for Global Investigations, Jeff Meyer.

The Robberies

The heist began at the Walmart located on 632 Grassfield Pkwy. in Chesapeake, where the suspects stole around $38,000 worth of Apple products in January. Similar thefts occurred in other Virginia cities, bringing the total value of stolen goods to approximately $118,000. A fourth suspect was later identified in connection to the car used in the thefts.

During the Chesapeake Walmart robbery, the suspects used a tool to open the casings holding the Apple products and made off with the merchandise in a dark pickup truck. Descriptions provided by Meyer helped identify the suspects involved in the thefts.

The Suspects

The first suspect, described as wearing all black with a beanie and standing around 6 feet tall, was identified as Taeyon McClease. The second suspect, around 5’7” and wearing black with red shoes, was identified as Tony McClease. The third suspect, between 5’7” to 5’10” and 115 lbs., wearing a grey zip-up hoodie, a black medical mask, and black rimmed glasses, was identified as Alexander Newman. The owner of the car used in the thefts, a 2006 Ford F150 with Texas plates, was identified as Ariana Orkney.

Connection to Other Robberies

Meyer connected the same suspects to Apple thefts at Walmart stores in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Yorktown, and South Hill Virginia between December and January. Some of the suspects had prior criminal cases in North and South Carolina, further linking them to the robberies. Tony and Newman were also identified in connection to thefts in Roxboro, N.C.

Arrests and Recovered Items

Tony was arrested on active warrants during a traffic stop in the F150, where police found a narcotic, two cell phones, a gun, and a new Apple iPad box matching the serial number of a stolen item. A search warrant on the car recovered Orkney’s vehicle title, U-Haul receipt, clothing matching suspects’ descriptions, a crowbar, screwdrivers, Walmart smocks, and a Walmart ID badge.

Current Status

As of now, no charges have been filed for the Chesapeake Walmart thefts. However, Tony is facing charges for a theft at a Norfolk Walmart. The investigation is ongoing, and updates can be found on WAVY.com.
