Details of the Shooting
The shooting occurred just before 7 p.m. on Monday in the area of Hickory Road and Oak Leaf Drive in Kansas City. Kansas City police officers responded to the scene and found the victim, identified as 28-year-old Mauliek Taylor, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Tragically, Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators found spent shell casings near the victim and a vehicle, indicating that a firearm had been used in the shooting. Evidence collected at the scene suggested that the shooting was the result of a drug transaction gone wrong.
Suspect Charged and Warrant Issued
Following their investigation, Jackson County prosecutors have charged Tyler Thompson with 26 felony charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting. Thompson, along with another individual, allegedly met with the victim and another man to complete a drug transaction. It is alleged that Thompson opened fire with a rifle, resulting in the death of Mauliek Taylor.
