Florida Couple Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping in Federal Way

A shocking incident took place in Federal Way, Washington, where a Florida couple was arrested for posing as delivery drivers in a scheme to kidnap a relative’s baby. The couple, identified as 42-year-old Chun Ho Vincent Lai and 33-year-old Marly Ardila, orchestrated the kidnapping of their relative’s 7-month-old baby at the Mariposa Apartments in Federal Way.

The Kidnapping Scheme

Court documents revealed that the couple informed their relative to expect a delivery. When the mother opened her door to receive the package, she was allegedly zip-tied by the couple. The baby was then stuffed into a red duffle bag, and the couple fled the scene in their own vehicle with Florida plates. The mother, who was also punched in the face by the man, sustained injuries during the ordeal.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Federal Way Police and the FBI launched an immediate investigation and were able to track the couple to Eastern Washington three hours later using the cell phone they had stolen. The authorities found the couple with the baby and apprehended them. The suspects are currently being held at the King County Jail on $750,000 bail and are facing charges of kidnapping, assault, and other offences.

Legal Proceedings

The Florida couple is scheduled to be arraigned on March 7, where they could also face federal charges in connection with the kidnapping attempt. Casey McNerthney of the King County Prosecutor’s Office emphasised the unusual nature of the case but affirmed that swift action would be taken against such criminal activities.
