SALISBURY — A Salisbury man found himself in police custody after attempting to rob a local Dollar General store with a fake gun, only to be thwarted by a brave cashier who refused to hand over any money.

The incident began when officers responded to a call at the Food Lion on Statesville Boulevard, where a purse had been snatched from a passerby. The suspect then fled into the nearby Britton Village, prompting a search by law enforcement.

During the search, reports came in that the same individual had entered the Dollar General store and demanded cash from the cashier, brandishing what appeared to be a weapon concealed in a grocery bag. When the cashier stood their ground and refused to comply, the would-be robber fled the scene empty-handed.

The suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Jonathan Antonio Krider, was apprehended hiding in a dumpster on the Marlow’s property by police.

Krider now faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny from a person, and has been remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center. Due to a violation of pre-trial release conditions, he has been denied bond.

Fortunately, the stolen purse was recovered and returned to its rightful owner, bringing a small measure of relief to the victim.
