Accident – Death – Obituary News : LAS VEGAS (FOX5/Gray News) – The tragic racing-related crash in Las Vegas that claimed the life of one individual has been further investigated, revealing that the drivers involved were actually siblings. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of February 21 on East Silverado Ranch Boulevard near Bermuda Road, involved an orange 2022 Chevrolet Camaro and a maroon 2023 Mazda MX5. The two vehicles were reportedly travelling at high speeds when they collided, resulting in a devastating impact.

The passenger of the Mazda, identified as 24-year-old Jessica Dettlaff, tragically lost her life in the crash. The driver of the Mazda, her sister 26-year-old Melissa Dettlaff, sustained injuries and was transported to Sunrise Hospital for treatment. Jonathan Gallagher, the 24-year-old driver of the Camaro, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to University Medical Center.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the vehicles appeared to be racing or engaging in reckless driving behaviour prior to the collision. Investigations revealed that both the Camaro and the Mazda were travelling at speeds exceeding the legal limit, with the Camaro reaching speeds above 90 miles per hour and the Mazda exceeding 80 miles per hour.

Upon further examination, it was discovered that Gallagher, Melissa Dettlaff, and Jessica Dettlaff had been at Distill Bar before the crash. An employee at the bar confirmed their presence, shedding light on the events leading up to the tragic accident. Both Gallagher and Melissa Dettlaff admitted to their presence at the bar, further implicating their involvement in the reckless driving incident.

Melissa Dettlaff, who was found to have consumed alcohol prior to the crash, is currently facing charges of reckless driving resulting in death or bodily harm, participating in a speed contest, and potentially DUI resulting in death pending the analysis of blood samples. Gallagher posted bail on February 22 and is scheduled to appear in court on March 27.
