Tragic Racing Crash in Las Vegas Claims the Life of Sisters

LAS VEGAS (FOX5/Gray News) – The devastating aftermath of a racing-related crash in Las Vegas has left a community in mourning after it was revealed that the two drivers involved were actually sisters, according to details from an arrest report.

The incident, which took place on Feb. 21 at 1:41 a.m. on East Silverado Ranch Boulevard near Bermuda Road, saw an orange 2022 Chevrolet Camaro and a maroon 2023 Mazda MX5 speeding down the road at a dangerous pace. The collision that followed resulted in the Chevrolet crashing into a retaining wall and the Mazda colliding with a light pole and tree, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Tragically, one of the sisters, identified as 24-year-old Jessica Dettlaff, was unable to escape the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sister, 26-year-old Melissa Dettlaff, who was driving the Mazda, sustained injuries and was rushed to Sunrise Hospital for treatment.

Jonathan Gallagher, the 24-year-old driver of the Camaro, also suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to University Medical Center. Despite passing a sobriety test, an officer detected the smell of alcohol on Melissa Dettlaff, prompting further investigation.
