Man Arrested After Attempted Carjacking Thwarted by Good Samaritan in Naugatuck

A man was apprehended by police in Naugatuck after attempting to carry out a carjacking that was prevented by a quick-thinking passerby wielding a hammer, authorities reported.

The incident took place on February 24 at the Fulling Mills Deli located at 281 Prospect Street in Naugatuck. According to the Naugatuck Police Department, officers were called to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. in response to a reported carjacking.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials were informed that the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Guy Guery from Naugatuck, had made an attempt to steal a vehicle that was occupied at the time. Fortunately, a brave passerby intervened by brandishing a hammer, causing Guery to flee into a nearby wooded area.

With the assistance of additional officers, a perimeter was swiftly established, leading to the successful location and apprehension of Guery in close proximity to the scene of the crime.

Despite putting up resistance during the arrest, Guery was eventually taken into custody and now faces charges of attempted carjacking by robbery, second-degree reckless endangerment, and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest. He is currently being held on bail set at £500,000 and appeared in court at Waterbury Superior Court on Monday.

Furthermore, it was discovered that Guery had several outstanding warrants for failure to appear, which were also addressed during his arrest.
