Arrest Made in Fatal Shooting of Denton Teen

Authorities in Denton have apprehended a suspect in connection with the tragic shooting of a 16-year-old teen earlier this month. The incident took place near Denia Park, at the intersection of Roselawn Drive and Bernard Street.

On the night of February 3rd, officers responded to a call regarding an unconscious person in the area. A witness reported seeing a bullet hole in the window of a vehicle, where the male driver, identified as Ely Mendez Gomez, was found unresponsive. Despite efforts to save him, Gomez was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Witnesses, including a female passenger who was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, described the suspect as wearing all dark clothing and a ski mask. The passenger also mentioned that the suspect was armed.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

Following an investigation, 19-year-old Marcus Williams from Sanger was identified as a person of interest in the case. Police determined that Williams, who was the boyfriend of the female passenger, had followed Gomez’s vehicle on the night of the shooting.

Williams was apprehended on Wednesday in the 1500 block of West University Drive in Denton. He is currently being held at the Denton jail, facing a murder charge. At this time, bail has not been set for Williams, and it remains unclear whether he has legal representation.
