Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run in St. Landry Parish

On February 28, 2024, Louisiana State Police made a significant breakthrough in a fatal hit-and-run case that occurred in St. Landry Parish back in January. 34-year-old Ryan Scott Soileau of Washington was arrested in connection with the incident, which resulted in the tragic death of a bicyclist.

Arrest and Charges

Soileau was taken into custody at Troop I under a felony arrest warrant and later booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail. The charges against him include negligent homicide and hit and run. This arrest brings some closure to the family and friends of the victim.

The Incident

The fatal hit-and-run took place on January 26, 2024, on Louisiana Highway 103 near Alex Stoute Road, just north of Port Barre. The victim, 54-year-old Daniel Craig Leger from Port Barre, was cycling along the highway when he was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle. Despite having safety features such as a red flashing LED light, Leger was ejected from his bicycle and sadly passed away from his injuries after being taken to a local hospital.

Identification of the Suspect

The driver responsible for the hit-and-run remained unknown until Soileau’s recent arrest. Louisiana State Police have not disclosed how they were able to identify Soileau as the suspect in this case. At the time of the incident, it was unclear if impairment played a role, and a standard toxicology sample was submitted for analysis.
