Arrest Made in Connection to Pet-Related Death in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has announced a significant development in a case involving the tragic death of a man following a dispute over a pet in 2023.

On June 11, 2023, authorities responded to a distress call reporting an unresponsive individual at a residence on the 3900 block of Maryland Avenue in Las Vegas, Nevada. The victim was identified as 69-year-old Larry Vargas.

Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel rushed Vargas to Sunrise Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead. A preliminary investigation by law enforcement revealed that Vargas had been engaged in a physical altercation with 51-year-old Roman Ramirez over a pet, leading to the tragic outcome. The case was swiftly handed over to the homicide section for further investigation.

On February 8, following an examination by the Clark County Coroner’s office, the incident was officially classified as a homicide. Subsequently, Ramirez, who had been out on bail, was located and re-arrested by the criminal apprehension team on February 22. He now faces the serious charge of open murder and is scheduled to appear in Clark County Justice Court on February 29.
