The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the State of Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, acted promptly upon receiving a report of a potential threat of mass violence aimed at Jackson Central-Merry High School.
On the 27th of February 2024, the School Resource Officer and Criminal Investigation Divisions were alerted to a concerning post on the Instagram social media platform. The post alluded to a possible threat of mass violence involving shooting and explosives at Jackson Central-Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee.

Without hesitation, law enforcement personnel mobilised resources and dispatched teams to thoroughly investigate the threat. Following a meticulous investigation, a suspect was identified, leading to a comprehensive search of the suspect’s residence to eliminate any potential danger.
During the search, investigators discovered a loaded handgun and ammunition at the suspect’s residence, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Subsequent to the investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigations and School Resource Officer Divisions of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a 15-year-old male juvenile enrolled in the Jackson-Madison County School System was identified as the suspect. The individual has been apprehended and is facing charges in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated TCA § 39-16-517, which pertains to “Threats of Mass Violence.”
